"Anywhere between 40 and 50 percent of teachers will leave the classroom within their first 5 years of teaching. Turnover in teaching is about 4 percent higher than other professions."
- Why Do Teachers Quit?
Being a teacher today is more challenging than it has ever been, causing high rates of turnover and fewer teachers entering the profession. COVID created learning gaps that are difficult to bridge; trauma centered around students and families is at an all-time high; and finding highly qualified, experienced teachers is rare. Many teachers are entering the profession from an alternate pathway, on provisional/emergency licenses, or from another country. We also know administrators’ and coaches’ plates are full, and giving dedicated time to build the capacity of new teachers (or all teachers) is not always an option.
After dedicating years to coaching and growing teachers, we’ve created a variety of supports to help schools and districts build the capacity of their teachers while still being able to focus on all the responsibilities that come with their own position. We work with each school or district to find the right supports for your teachers and your budget. Unlike many other programs or companies, we only want you to buy what your school really needs. Whether you’re building a program to support new hires, working to achieve school improvement goals, or just want to provide a level of support your teachers haven’t previously had, we have you covered! From instructional newsletters to resources to PD, Tailored Education can provide the support options that your teachers need!
Support Options For Teachers
Instructional Newsletters and Resources
Teachers receive weekly newsletters or resources that support a monthly topic. The newsletters will include an overview of the topic along with tips, things to watch out for, and advice for implementation. The accompanying resources will be ready to use in their classroom immediately! We also have these types of newsletters for mentor teachers as well!
Resource Folder
The resource folder is a new venture for TailorED this year! We are creating a folder of instructional resources for K–6 math and reading, and we will continue to add grade levels and subject areas in the coming years. This folder will house ready-to-use resources for teachers to access and implement. The folder will be organized by grade level and skill, so that as teachers are planning and collaborating, they can go right to what they need! The goal is for teachers to be able to find engaging, aligned resources that save them time and model best practices
We provide professional development in a variety of models. You can purchase ready-made sessions to present to your staff (or a small group/PLC) or we can customize PD just for you! Our custom sessions can be on any topic and are created to fit the time or budget you have. Regardless of the format you choose, your teachers will be engaged in the session and leave with the knowledge and tools to implement what they learned right in their classroom! (Check out our PD page for more details.)
Professional Development
Coaching Sessions
We provide individual and group coaching sessions. One-on-one sessions include individualized instructional support for teachers. These discussions could include anything from planning to data analysis, challenging behaviors, or difficult parents. Regardless of the topics we discuss, we will ensure teachers have the resources and support they need to tackle the hurdles they are facing. Our group coaching sessions can be set up in a variety of ways to meet the needs of your school or district. Coaches will meet with a group of teachers to discuss trends, share ideas and experiences, and collaborate. The groups can be based on: subject area, grade band, experience or background, specific needs or goals (lesson planning, classroom management, class transformations, etc.). These sessions are a great way for teachers to share their experiences, learn from each other, and make connections!
We provide classroom observations in two formats: virtually and in person. Both include the observation of a lesson and a follow-up call to provide feedback and the next steps. In our experience with current districts, as well as our time supervising student teachers in higher education, we have found virtual observations to be the most insightful and cost-effective. The virtual format allows for longer observations, multiple observers, and viewpoints, and allows the teacher to choose their submission. Teachers may choose for us to see a class that struggles with classroom management, a group of students with wide academic abilities, or their best lesson. This format allows teachers to be more reflective, as they can revisit the video to focus on their instruction, as well as what students are doing while they are teaching. In either scenario, the follow-up call will include glows and grows, probing questions, and constructive feedback. Our goal is to create reflective educators who value feedback and are always looking for ways to build their professional capacity!
Classroom Observations
Mentors are another way you can support new teachers and build capacity within your school or district. We can provide quarterly mentor newsletters, monthly talking points, group coaching, and PD for mentors so they feel supported and have the tools they need to support new teachers.
